The continued success of GTA 5 could speak volumes for Rockstar's plans for the next episode. The current generation of slot machines does not have its own exclusive Grand Theft Auto game . However, many analysts believe that GTA 6 won't launch before late 2021, and that's not a good sign for PS4 and Xbox One owners. GTA 5 was introduced on PS3 and Xbox 360 and, although it has made an impressive change to the current Sony and Microsoft consoles, took place years ago.
Using the standard process, Rockstar Games GTA 6 would have started before the end of the current game cycle.
Rockstar Games has been released on consoles in recent years and then on PC. There are currently many owners of PS4 and Xbox One.
According to what the parent company Take-Two Interactive said this year, this seems less likely, at least in 2020.
According to a report on the results of TT2, GTA 5 Online is expected to continue to be an important part of the company's future sales. It has been confirmed that GTA Online is ready to break further records in 2020 after the weather was impressive last year.
"Grand Theft Auto Online again exceeded our expectations and offers the best vacation quarter for audience size and net reserves," said Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two.
"GTA Online had the highest consecutive record number of players, with a record audience in December and in the third quarter after the Diamond Casino and Resort update in July and Diamond and Casino Heist in December.
"We are not close to reaching a new record of recurring consumer spending for Grand Theft Auto Online in fiscal 2020."
Given that PS4 and Xbox One will remain the main consoles for much of 2020, Take-Two Interactive has no reason to push ahead with the launch of GTA 6 this year.
There is no doubt that the next Grand Theft Auto will sell very well and that PS4 and Xbox One have sold a lot of units.
However, the hardware limitations of the two consoles that were introduced in 2013 could cause long-term problems for GTA Online.
The PS5 and Xbox Series X may be about to ship 12 teraflops when they launch later this year, and this is a big step forward.
If GTA Online continues to overwrite goals, why not wait for PS5 and Xbox X to be defined before starting GTA 6? The added firepower associated with the next generation change offers more content options in GTA Online.
GTA 5 Online is still very popular, but has hit a wall when creating new content. The launch of the casino helped update the offer, but it will be surprising that something so new will come in the future.
With GTA 6 for PS5 and Xbox Series X, Rockstar Games can discover much bigger ideas for the popular multiplayer mode. The Motley Fool notes that Take-Two Interactive's recent earnings report raised questions about the company's future growth.
Questions are raised that are not linked to a decline in GTA Online's interest.
"The decline in sales has nothing to do with Take-Two's main business, Grand Theft Auto," added the Motley Fool report.
"The game, which has sold more than 120 million units in the past six years, continues to attract more players. Recurring user expenses for Grand Theft Auto Online increased 54% year over year in the quarter.
"Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 continues to grow," as CEO Strauss Zelnick noted, "both in terms of engagement and recurring consumer spending.
